MVIWAMORO is a regional network of farmer’s groups. It was launched in 2002 due to the resolution made at MVIWAMORO annual general meeting to expand the networks in districts of Morogoro. The establishment of MVIWAMORO aims to strengthen communication between local groups, networks, institutions, partner organizations working with farmers, and governments at the regional or district level. It enables small-scale farmers to come together to address pertinent challenges.

These challenges include the lack of representation by farmers in decision-making processes, leading to exclusion from development processes. Additionally, there is a lack of a common voice among farmers, economic challenges such as the lack of access to markets and financial services, food insecurity, and the lack of recognition that farmers are an important component of Tanzanian society.

In 2008, the network was officially registered as a non-profit-making NGO with the registration number 00002480, under the name MVIWATA NGAZI YA KATI MOROGORO. At that time, MVIWATA Ngazi ya Kati Morogoro essentially became a network of small-scale farmers and local networks at the village, ward, and district levels in Morogoro Region. It has operated in eight districts of Morogoro Region, including Mvomero, Kilosa, Gairo, Morogoro Municipal, Ulanga, Malinyi, Kilombero, and Morogoro rural. For eleven years, it has been actively working in these areas.

On July 28, 2021, MVIWATA NGAZI YA KATI MOROGORO officially changed its name to MVIWAMORO after being registered as MVIWAMORO under the Societies Act [CAP. 337. R.E 2002] with the registration number S.A 21835. This change was enforced by the amendment on the NGO Act of 2002, which registered MVIWATA NKM, to the NGO Act 2019. The new act requires changes from the Ministry of Community Development to the Ministry of Home Affairs for member ownership and direct beneficiaries. Therefore, MVIWAMORO is now essentially a network of small-scale farmers and local networks at the village, ward, and district level in Morogoro Region.

The slogan of MVIWAMORO is “Nguvu Ipo Tuwapo Pamoja, Uwezo Upo Tuwapo Wengi”
